CWS Glass Railing Systems: The Vero Beach Owner’s Guide

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS manufactures a few distinct glass railing lines, and they do not all share hardware. The three series you will most often see on Vero Beach homes are the CWS Glide, the CWS Infusion, and the earlier CWS Coastal series. A Glide top rail cap will not seat properly on an Infusion upright, and the Coastal line used a narrower channel than the current production, which is why we always ask for a photo of the failed part before we drive out.

Signs Your CWS Glass Railing Systems Is Failing

• Glass panel moves more than a quarter inch when you press on it. This usually means a standoff pin has loosened or the base shoe gasket has compressed. Left alone, the panel starts working on the remaining hardware and the problem widens.
• White crust or pitting at the base of the aluminum shoes. That is galvanic corrosion from salt air and pooled water. It starts as a cosmetic issue but eventually compromises the anchor strength of the entire mount.
• Cloudiness or moisture between glass layers. If your CWS panels are laminated, the interlayer around the edges can delaminate after enough UV and heat exposure. This is a glass replacement job, not a hardware fix.
• A hairline crack running from a mounting hole. Cracks at the hole mean the glass was over-torqued or the panel is shifting under pressure. This is a safety concern: a fatigued panel can fail suddenly when someone puts weight on it.
• Rubber gaskets cracking or pulling out of the channel. These gaskets hold the panel true and keep it from rattling. When they dry out and shrink, the panel sits loose in the frame and the clamps work harder than they were designed to.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

DIY or Call Us?

There are two things a careful homeowner can safely check: whether the base shoe screws are visibly rusted, and whether the rubber gaskets have pulled away from the channel. That is a five-minute inspection, and it will tell you whether you need service at all. What we do not recommend is unbolting a loaded glass panel yourself. The panel is under tension from the clamps and its own weight, and if a base shoe lets go while the panel is partially unsupported, you are holding ninety pounds of tempered glass with nowhere to put it. People get hurt doing exactly that. If the panel is cracked or fogged, leave it in place and call us.
