PGT Window Installation: The Vero Beach Owner’s Guide

PGT window installation in Vero Beach typically runs $85 to $165 per window for labor when the opening is sound, with full replacement of a standard PGT single-hung or casement unit landing between $450 and $900 installed. We keep PGT-compatible hardware, balance systems, and weatherstripping on our trucks, so most repairs are done in one visit. The usual story we hear is this: a window that once closed with a solid thunk now rattles in the frame, or a sash that drops like a guillotine when you let go, or the classic Vero Beach complaint, a window that sweats between the panes and shows condensation no amount of wiping will fix. That is the seal gone. And in this climate, a blown seal on a PGT unit is not a cosmetic issue. It is the start of the frame absorbing salt-laden humidity, and that is a more expensive conversation.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

We install and service the PGT lines most common in Indian River County: the 2200 series, 2300 series, and the WinGuard impact line that shows up on everything from Miracle Mile bungalows to newer stucco work off 58th Avenue. The quick way to identify your series is the sticker on the inside of the frame, usually on the head or the sill. It will give you the model, glass package, and manufacture date. If the sticker is gone (sun and salt eat those things in five years), pull the sash and look for the etching in the corner of the glass. That etching is the fingerprint.

Compatibility matters more on PGT than most owners expect. A balance from a 2200 will not carry a WinGuard sash; the weight difference alone makes it a liability, and forcing it will chew up the shoe or let the sash drop hard enough to crack a tile sill. On the glass side, your options are OEM PGT glass or a quality aftermarket equivalent matched by thickness and Low-E coating. OEM is the right call when you are inside a warranty window or when the unit is an impact. Aftermarket is often the better value on an older single-hung where the original glass package is no longer in production anyway. We price both on paper, side by side, so you see exactly what you are paying for.

TruePane is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with PGT, but we install and service their products, and we register the manufacturer warranty in writing before we leave the driveway.

Signs Your PGT Window Installation Is Failing

  • The sash will not stay up. This is almost always a failed balance system. The spiral or block-and-tackle assembly wears out, and the sash drops. On PGT single-hungs, we see this most often on the west-facing elevation where afternoon heat works the spring temper.
  • You can feel air moving around the sash on a windy day. That is weatherstripping that has flattened or torn, or a sash that has shifted out of square from a settling rough opening. In Vero Beach, the humidity accelerates the breakdown of the pile weatherstrip PGT uses on some casement lines.
  • Condensation or fog between the panes. The seal unit has failed. Once the desiccant inside the spacer is saturated, there is no drying it out. The glass has to be replaced. This is the most common reason we replace PGT sashes in homes within three miles of the ocean.
  • The window is harder to open than it used to be, or binds partway up. That points to a frame issue or a shoe that has jumped the track. Forcing it will damage the tilt latches and the pivot bar, turning a $40 hardware job into a full sash replacement.
  • Water stains on the interior drywall below the window. This is rarely the glass. It is the installation flashing or the slope of the sill underneath, which only shows itself after years of storms. We opened a PGT install a few months back on a 1980s block home in the beachside corridor, and the original flashing had been folded wrong from day one. The window itself was fine. The opening was not.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Your cost depends on what you are replacing. A sash with new glass, installed, runs $200 to $400 on a standard 2200 or 2300 series. A full window replacement including frame, trim, and proper flashing runs $450 to $900 depending on size and whether it is a WinGuard impact unit. Hardware alone like a balance, tilt latch, or cam pivot is typically $65 to $140 installed, and that includes the service call. Every quote we write is a fixed line-item number. Not an estimate with a range you find out about later. The parts, the labor, the disposal. It is on the paper, and the paper is what we stand behind. The work is covered by our Done Right Promise, and both manufacturer warranty layers are registered in writing before our truck leaves your driveway.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect your PGT window to understand what you are dealing with. Open it, tilt the sash if it has tilt latches, look for torn weatherstripping, and note whether the glass etching reads tempered or laminated. You can also check the square of the frame with a tape measure corner to corner. What you should not do is disassemble the balance system. The springs inside a PGT balance assembly are under load, and they release fast. We have seen homeowners lose a grip and send a shoe through glass. The same goes for pulling a WinGuard impact sash. Those sashes are heavy, and the glazing bead on PGT frames is tighter than most because it has to hold rated glass in a storm. If you are uncertain what you are looking at, call us at (772) 279-7983. We will tell you honestly whether it is worth a visit or something you can live with. No charge for the conversation.

★★★★★

"Impact windows on the whole house. They handled the permit, the inspection, and gave me a folder with every approval number for the insurance company. My windstorm premium dropped enough to notice."

BBill T.

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."
